I Got Rhythm

Sophisticated wit, glorious melodies, exquisite poetry - these are just some of the hallmarks of the songs on this album of music from the colourful decades between the two Great Wars. Life for the wealthy was very good - fine cars, beautiful clothes, and the indulgence in leisurely trans-Atlantic journeys on great liners was often the order of the day. Elegant soirées in the cocktail bar must surely have featured the songs presented here: music from the best of the Broadway shows and some memorable melodies by some of the most gifted musicians of the day. The Gershwins were one of the most inspired song writing teams of the century. Porter and Kern with their urbane styles were continual success stories in the theatres of Europe and America. The piano music and melodies of 'Fats' Waller and Scott Joplin show the work of these talented composers at its best and the album showcases some of the most iconic songs of the century. So mix a cocktail, get up and dance or simply relax with a cup of tea and listen to some of the best tunes of the twentieth century.
